Yellow alert in four Kerala districts as IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms today


Kerala rain updates today: The impact of the cyclonic storm Montha is being felt in Kerala, along with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Bengal. Rain/thundershower is likely to occur at a few places in Kerala and Lakshadweep on Thursday (October 30), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).  While a yellow alert had been issued on Wednesday, there is no warning in force at present.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31°C and 24°C, respectively.

Impact of heavy rainfall in Kerala

According to the IMD, the impact of the rainfall could be widespread. This includes:

  • Poor visibility
  • Traffic disruption/congestion.
  • Waterlogging on roads, low-lying areas.
  • Road blockades due to uprooting of trees or falling of branches.
  • Uprooting of trees may also cause damage to power lines.
  • Damage to crops due to heavy rainfall.
  • Landslide, mudslide, or landslip in hilly areas.
  • Injuries to people and livestock in open places due to lightning strikes.

Suggested action:

• Check traffic advisories before stepping out and follow them.
• Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.
• Propping of the vegetable pandals recommended.
• Take shelter during thunderstorm/lightning activities.

Tamil Nadu weather

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places with thunderstorm & lightning. One or two spells of light/moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely to occur in some areas. The average minimum temperature is expected to be around 25°C, and the maximum is around 34°C.
