Kim Jong Un Beijing Visit and Its Global Impact

Is China’s Xi Jinping on the verge of scoring a massive diplomatic win on the day when Beijing showcases its military parade that coincides with the nation’s Victory Day? Going by reports that come out of the Chinese capital, the Victory Day parade, which is a celebration of the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II and the culmination of the war, will also be a major diplomatic event for China.

The event, scheduled for September 3 and sure to be watched by the world, will see the Chinese premier welcoming North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin at the podium. Having the North Korean leader cosying up to the Chinese and Russian heads of state at a public event on Chinese soil is set to be a major event in the political history of the world.

Major achievement for China

When Kim Jong Un arrives in Beijing on his first multilateral international meeting, the event is nothing short of a major achievement for China. This would be witnessed by the world as a diplomatic success for Xi Jinping, as China is pushing its way forward in establishing a Beijing-led world order. The event is sure to be seen with envy by the United States.

US President Donald Trump has been trying hard to get Russia end its war in Ukraine for long. The three leaders coming together on a single platform on Chinese soil could send feelers of a different kind to President Trump and other world leaders who are keen on seeing the war to come to a halt.  It would be here that China’s Xi Jinping would be seen as wielding his influence on Russia and North Korea, and could change the way the world would see China henceforth.

An event to be closely watched by the world

Kim Jong Un would create history with his presence as no North Korean leader has been a guest at the Chinese Victory Parade since year 1959. A BBC report states that Kim and Putin will be among 26 other heads of state at the military parade that China would showcase for the world. Though Donald Trump would not attend, he has been, for quite some time now, been keen on meeting up with the North Korean leader.

It is for sure that the world media would look forward to this event, for Kim isn’t someone who travels often. He has been close to Putin and he has met the Russian leader twice since the start of the Ukraine war. Russia’s ties with China is known, and when the three nations come together it would be an event to take note of.

The Victory parade, for China, is an event where Beijing would put on show its latest weaponry. This would include tanks, aircraft, anti-drone systems and more. Thousands of military personnel would march through the Tiananmen Square, and would go on for 70 minutes.
